Coober Pedy Big 4 Caravan Park, SA

We arrived into the town of Coober Pedy late in the evening. We had called in to book at the Big 4 Stuart Ranges Caravan Park as we were on the highway, and luckily enough the lovely reception staff waited for our arrival. It was easy enough to find, just a turn off the main Stuart Highway and you will find it on your right. The flags and big sign make it simple to locate.

As we arrived, we pulled up to the office and found the staff waiting for us. The lovely lady greeted us and welcomed us to the park. She was quick to check us in and allowed us to head on to the grounds.

Driving down the long driveway we find palm trees, Bali style huts and trees greeting us. There was a swimming pool on the left and a spa next to it, although these were out of action, due to damage. When we passed the fence which closes off the pool, the park opens right up, showing off its’ shaded area, powered and unpowered sites and then the amenities.

As we arrived during the off-peak season, there were only 3 other caravans within the park. We were advised by the staff that we could park wherever we liked. Close to the amenities, with a small distance from other travellers, we found a nice spot to set up.

The following morning, it was time to take a look around the park. The camp kitchen was simply stunning! It boasted an amazing amount of bench space, storage space and many tables and chairs to sit at when eating. There was a microwave, large fridge, oven and stove, all in lovely stainless steel finish. This would have to be one of the nicest camp kitchens we have seen in our travels to date.

Right next door to the camp kitchen, we found the toilet block. Within this building was a large, recently updated, laundry with many stainless steel washing machines and dryers, with marble style bench tops. The toilet section of this block appeared to also be recently updated, with lovely square toilets, beautiful slate-like floor finishes and glossy white tiles. There was plenty of lighting throughout the block. The showers, however, were coin operated, but it only cost a mere .20c per 2 minutes, which really won’t break the bank!

We found a BBQ area behind the camp kitchen, where cooking outside amongst family and friends would be a lovely way to spend an evening. There was ample seating within the BBQ area, and conveniently located nearby was a playground for the kids to burn off all their energy before time to wind down. All had been well thought out while designing.

Within the park was a Pizzeria however, due to the recent pandemic, they unfortunately were not currently operating. To one side of the driveway was a 24-hour water connection, which also was coin operated, at .20c per 40 litres.

The park also had a motel attached just across from the office. They offered spacious one and two bedroom apartments on site, all reasonably priced. Within the motel area, was also a lovely Bali hut to sit and relax amongst friends. There was a generously sized camp kitchen in this part of the park to also share the love of cooking together as a group.

The park had a 4-star rating, and quite deservingly also. The staff were more than happy to accommodate our needs, the park was tidy, although a little extra work would make it even more enjoyable. The facilities were second to none, and everything was easily accessible. Just a short drive from the centre of town, definitely worth a stop in. We rate it 9/10.
